REWARD MANAGEMENT
ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS
Assessment for the Reward Management module takes the form of a choice of one from 5 questions:
one successful aspect of your organisation’s reward practice
one problematic aspect of your organisation’s reward practice
Scotsoft case study - bonus
Scotsoft case study - equal pay
Scotsoft case study - pensions
One of these should be selected and a report of around 2500 words produced. (Note that marks will be deducted where the report length is excessive.). Please pay careful attention to the wording of the questions. Detail on the questions follows.
Reminder:
You should not select a question where this is also the subject of your management report, or where you have submitted another assignment on this topic.
QUESTION 1.
Take one aspect of the reward system of your own organisation which you consider to be particularly successful and:
a) Explain what you consider to be successful about it and analyse the reasons why, illustrating with evidence from the organisation where possible. Compare your analysis to literature on the topic. 70%
and
b) Discuss to what extent the successful practice could be applied to other groups or organisational contexts, highlighting any steps you would consider necessary for successful implementation, again making reference to literature to support your points. 30%
QUESTION 2
Take one aspect of the reward system of your own organisation which you consider to be particularly problematic and
a) Explain what makes it problematic and analyse the reasons why, illustrating with evidence from the organisation where possible. Compare your analysis to literature on the topic. 70%
and
b) Make recommendations for improvement in the practice. Advise on the method by which any change you advocate should be approached, highlighting any steps you would consider necessary for successful implementation, again making reference to literature to support your points.

q Note: ‘one aspect’ of the reward system might be, for example, Job Evaluation, Bonus payments, Performance related Pay, Profit Sharing, an aspect of benefits, etc. If in doubt about what would be acceptable as ‘as an aspect’ to discuss, please speak to Jean.
q Note: You may use your own organisation or another one with which you are familiar, such as a previous employer.
