Unit 2 IP—The Apple Corporation   IP 2 Hints:   A)    Read the SWOT file in the Instructor Files/Drop Box area. Conduct your SWOT analysis using this format.  B)    Read the Research Resources file and the Four Ways to Improve Your GPA file in the Instructor Files/Drop Box area. C)    Read the unit 2 writing format example in the unit-specific writing examples file—you can even use it as a template—and use this format to respond to the unit 2 IP. Poorly structured responses which do not provide the entire question response under the re-stated question do not earn best grades. D)    Be sure to read the Apple case in your text as well as research Apple Corporation and the subjects and concepts of the assignment. Since the Apple case data is a few years old, comparing the current data on Apple will provide insight into their strategic management process.  E)     There are only two questions in this assignment; however, the assignment is worth 150 points. Make sure your response to each question provides 75 points worth of response—provide conceptual inferences with research, rationale, logic, and example.  F)     For question 1, be sure to do a thorough enough SWOT analysis to provide sufficient factors for each of the four categories—Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, or Threats. I would select at least five factors for each category to ensure a high-quality analysis and earn a better grade. Be sure to use both the outline of factor key words for your SWOT and an essay explanation of why you selected each factor and why you placed it under the category you did in the SWOT analysis. The SWOT file contains the suggested format and provides rules-of-thumb which will help you place the factors selected into their proper category.  G)    For question 2, remember that you are to propose strategies from a competitor’s point of view. I would suggest at least three strategies to earn the best grades. You may want to utilize the SWOT Matrix—pages 221-225 in your text—to assist you with strategies, but the Strategies format should reflect the SWOT file I uploaded to the Instructor Files/Drop Box area.. To earn the best grades in a strategy class, your response to proposed strategies must explain 3 issues in addition to “what” strategy: 1) explain “how” to implement your strategies, 2) discuss potential ramifications (pros/cons) from your implementation and 3) describe what feedback mechanisms should be in place to measure the performance of your strategy.
