Individual Assignment Brief – Introduction to Business (NBS-1B1Y)   Analysing the Business Environment and its Effect on the Management of the Organisation.   Learning Outcomes   As a result of completing this assignment students will be able to demonstrate:   <ul style="margin-top: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in" type="disc"> <li class="MsoNormal"> Ability to analyse the internal and external environment </li> <li class="MsoNormal"> Ability to conduct own research into organisations </li> <li class="MsoNormal"> Ability to conduct own research into the underpinning theories and models </li> <li class="MsoNormal"> Ability to critically analyse, compare and contrast different strategies, discuss and arrive at a conclusion. </li> </ul>   Assignment Activity   You must select two case study organisations from the examples provided (Use the links below to access the e-case studies).    Website http://wps.pearsoned.co.uk/ema_uk_he_johnson_excorpstrat_7/0,9855,1709610-,00.html Home Student Resources Case studies     Analyse the organisations using SWOT, PESTLE plus either Stakeholder analysis or Porter’s five forces.  Compare and contrast the strategies of both organisations, similarities and differences, successes and failures and reach a conclusion / recommendation.  Please note however, that the main focus of the assignment is not on corporate strategy.    You will need to visit the organisations’ web sites (some of the case studies have web links attached on the Pearson Education website), and do your own additional research in respect of your chosen organisations to supplement the information supplied.  These analyses must be included in your assignment – you may use the appendix for this.   DO NOT contact the organisations directly.    Additionally you will be expected to show that you have done your own research into the underpinning theories and models.  This will be demonstrated in the text through referencing academic sources (e.g. from textbooks and journal articles), and these must then be listed in references/bibliography section of your submission.   The structure of the assignment should conform to usual standards for academic writing, referencing (Harvard system) and using appendices for illustrative purposes.   The weighting of marks for this assignment is 50% of the overall marks for this unit.  Pass mark is 40%.   Assessment Criteria.
