Recent articles in HR newspapers and journals have suggested that the trend for HR business-oriented personnel who specialise in strategic HR is being criticised because they have lost touch with the “traditional” operational side of HR.
How can HR professionals reconcile the need to become more strategic with the demands of managers to carry out the traditional “personnel” roles?

The intended learning outcomes are that on completion of this assignment the student should demonstrate their ability to:
1. Analyse and explain the contribution that HR professionals can make to the development of corporate strategy.
2. Demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to critically evaluate current developments and research in HR involvement in corporate strategy.
3.Compare and contrast the traditional “personnel” role with wider HR contributions to organisations.
4. Consider and critically evaluate the benefits and problems caused by the different expectations of the HR function.
