The Impact of ICT on Teaching and Learning

Introduction

Teaching is never been the same in the new generation of learners. Together with the aid of the teachers, the students can have the chance to learn the things of what would be useful in their future. The teachers are also allowed to use other tools such as the pedagogical structures and various teaching strategies. On the other hand, the teachers are also the one that is entrusted in facilitating the appropriate methods to deliver the quality education.

Background and Problem Statement

Many innovative methods are now employed in the stream of the education and it is supported by the various applications of learning. Based on the administration of the schools, the application of the information and communications technology or ICT is an effective tool to deliver and ensured that the quality education is in the hands of the students. In the development of the education towards the quality, transformation of the system can be the most admirable concept. However, what is the impact of the ICT in the terms of teaching as well as learning?

Research Objectives

The first objective of the study is to determine the level of understanding of the teachers and the students regarding the application of the ICT among the schools. As the second objective, the study is compelled to identify the impact of ICT in teaching proficiency and the effectiveness of it in learning.

Research Questions

Through the various strategies applied by the educators to deliver the quality education, the study prepared several questions that can help the study to meet its own objectives.

1.      What are the past strategies applied by the educators and the administrators to deliver the quality of education?

2.      What are the effects of the previous strategies in the pedagogical settings?

3.      What is the aim of the information and communications technology?

Literature Review

Information and communications technology or ICT is growing among the schools to accommodate the needs of the students in achieving the quality of education. ICT is identified as an approach in integrating the quality teaching. The transformation of the education happened through the integration of the ICT and aimed to serve the right amount of knowledge among the students. Integrating the information according to the genre and needs of the students is the most appropriate strategy to implement the quality education (Leng, 2008). Developing a program that intends to build the use of the technologies in teaching and learning is the response for the global call for quality education and its participation to the corporate world in the future. The objectives of the ICT emphasized the continuous professional development and support services for teachers, school administrators, and most especially for the students. The ICT can be drivers and barriers for the socio-political situations. As being part of the basic education, the formulation of this essential strategy aims for the connectivity and develop the competencies. Basic computer strategies and literacy can be the stepping stone for the strategic planning. The support of the ICT is not only for the teachers but also for the students. This is also part of the strategy in sustaining the efficacy of knowledge that the students can use in the near future (Dunuan, 2005). The impact of the ICT can reflect in the everyday live and the society. Although, it is difficult to measure but the positive impact would appear in facilitating the decisions of the students (DEPED, 2007).

Methodology

The applied method in the study is the use interview and the participants would be the teachers and the students who both experience the application of the information and communication technologies or ICT. The group of the teachers will asked regarding their personal information such as age, gender, position in the school, and their number of years in service. With the important information, the opinions of the teachers regarding the application of the ICT in the education can be assisted. On the other hand, the students are also part of the interview for they are the one who participated or experience the impact of the ICT.

Conclusion

The ICT in the schools, are appropriate to foster the learning. For the teachers, the teaching proficiency is the possible way to support the quality education. ICT is being applied in many of the schools and many teachers seen the effectiveness among the students and it is not impossible for the other schools to be part of the change.
