How well and in what capacity do you know the applicant?


 


I have known well Mr. Sugawara for five years and a half now, I am his mentor during his intensive programming training in the company and also his mentor to the department he is a part of and we work under the same division. We have worked together and I have observed his growth in becoming a good IT manager. He has this enthusiasm in him that makes him flexible as a worker and that he shows excellent management and leadership skills and has compassion for the team and its members.


 


Does the applicant have potential as a leader and a manager? What have you observed that leads you to think the applicant will be successful?


 


I do believe that the applicant has potentials of being a leader and a manager in the sense that Mr. Sugawara works extremely well with others. He has the ability to cooperate closely with colleagues, both as a leader and as a member of a team. When he first joined our company as an Applications Developer, he showed strong teamwork skills while working on projects such as system modification due to the change of securities and exchange law. He takes time to listen to the opinions of both the members of the team and his supervisors in order to reach a consensus about key aspects of the project. He has the love for the company and the staff and respected their great technique in computer science and their calm humane characteristics. But for some reason such as wrong institutional system and unskillful management of supervisors, staffs tend to loose their self-esteem so, he makes an effort to replenish their motivation in their hearts and talk to them if their faces seem cloud and counsel staff anxiety and he is happy when we make good job successfully.


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


 


Are there areas where the applicant can improve his or her potential for graduate study and a managerial career? If so, what are those areas?


 


Nobody is perfect I believe, so there are areas of improvement I observed in him although he is a capable manager who listens to the opinions and ideas of the members of his team, and then works to create a consensus, it sometimes takes him too long to coordinate the various team members when working on a project. My impression is that he tries too hard to accommodate the wishes of everyone in the team, which often leads to wasted time. I think that he needs to become more forceful in his management style and be less concerned about the feelings and wishes of team members who are unwilling to compromise.
