This is an analysis of the changes of the selected popular culture of the author. The analysis will discuss the changes that happened to the music industry. There would be a brief description as to the key differences between the medium’s past and present forms. The author will likewise analyze the reasons for the changes. A conclusion will end this essay taking into consideration by examining the effects the changes.

Popular culture is the patterns of the human activity and the symbolic structures that give the activities significance and importance. The popular culture is the medium of the society in presenting the lives and behavior or norms of the individuals, which are also in turn the dictates, another kind of behavior that people can adapt.

The chosen popular culture of the author is the music industry. Music industry in the past is more in the representation of what the lyricist or the singer on what he feels and would want to relay to the people. According to (1991), stated that at the beginning of the 1960s record producers controlled the song selection and performance styles of singers. Simon Firth during the 1970’s stated that the reason why music must be remade is because all of the original rock and rollers have become boring old farts, imprisoned by the routines of showbiz by the distant calculation of profit making.

The popular culture on the past states that music is accepted without any other choice. The music mainly focuses on what is within the music and emotions are really relayed in a manner that listeners are able to feel the same emotion.

On the 1980s, the time of funk music came in. Funk music set a lightening to the approach of rock and roll. During the 1990s, music has transformed into hip-hop and the music as called by teenagers as heavy metal. The years of the twentieth brought different kinds of music, which are not giving much focus to the way music, must be. The music in the current period is formal and more a lot of an expression.

On the other hand, although music in this present time is much targeted to the youth, the lyrics are more formed in a senseless way. The author perceived that it is senseless because the lyrics are not correct as to its form and rhyme. What makes the music today more in demand is the beat from where it is formed.  The worst part of the music today is that there are so many deviation.

Revival of past music has also emerged. The revival has been adapted a different kind of tune and allegro of the songs. However, the lyrics are still the same. One notable problem in this kind of music is the emergence of many copyright infringements.

Another thing to be considered is the worst part of the music industry is the presence of the EMO music. According to  (2005),  is the genre of soft-core punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 years old who do not smile and high-pitched, overwrought lyrics and guitar riffs with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarf’s, ripped Chucks with favorite band’s signature, black square-trimmed glasses, and ebony greasy, unwashed hair that is required to cover at least three-fifths of the face at an angle.

The author perceived that EMO music was the worst type of culture, which the music industry has created. The fact that there are many teenagers who are into that kind of music is its real definition. Teenagers are mostly into because it has been their outlet of whatever they feel. The author also believes that being EMO has a negative impact to the way of thinking of its fan. The definition of being an EMO makes the people succumbed to the idea that it is the right thing to do. The emergence of being able to release all kinds of emotions to the way of EMO fanatics carry themselves is what set them apart from all.

According to (2007), ABC reporter has stated the EMO is a terrifying and insidious force that has come “out of the internet and into music and the lives of the Utah teens.” It also further states  report then goes on to explain that emo-obsessed teens tend to wear black, listen to dark music with depressing lyrics, cut their hair in trendy styles with names like the “the gunshot wound”, and hide their cutting scars under black rubber bracelets. It was also further stated that the the EMO fanatics has been fantasizing is suicide which is the expressed in the songs.

Furthermore, as there are reports that there are those EMO fanatics that there are number of them, committing suicides, which have been inculcated on their minds because of what the songs, has made think.

This kind of transition in the music industry is indeed a great proof on how the culture of an individual can become more different as to what the actual norms of the society can dictate.

The dictate of music as a known popular culture is transitory. As individuals become more devoted to the fact that music is part of their lives, the matters of music that can dictate their behaviors will caused them their lives.

As the music listeners are more focused, on what can they derived from the music, their lives our more driven on what they can perceived from it. The rock and roll industry during the past periods are has became wrong or a nuisance because of its loud music. On the other hand, EMO music as it is laid down to express the real emotions of the singer, its effect is far more detrimental. The emotions are more profound and it tends to bring give the appearance that suicide or hurting one self is the best way to end all the torment.

Music is indeed a truly sense of expressions of different individuals and will further give definition on how individuals behave.
