Moods, Emotion and Personality

Personality is the pattern of behavior, thought and emotion unique to every individual. It is also the way how a person interacts to help or hinder the adjustment of a person to the other people or situation. Emotion on the other hand is a prime determinant of the sense of subjective well-being and appears to play a central role in many human activities. It is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts, and behavior (2008). While moods are considered to be generalized feeling states that are not typically identified with a particular stimulus and not sufficiently intense to interrupt ongoing thought processes (Clark and Isen 1982). These three plays a vital role on how it can affect the workplace. There should be a balance between how these factors should be handled in the workplace to avoid such arguments.

As what Howard M. Weiss stated in his article about organizational behavior, he believes that the production of moods and emotion within the workplace is merely because of the satisfactory received by the individual. There should always be a satisfaction in everything that we do. There is a reason why we tend to do such things in order to achieve something. A level of satisfaction helps to build up a positive connotation in our work. Nonetheless, this positive output may help trigger the right level of emotion during work.  Weiss sited various factors affecting the lowering of job satisfaction. This includes the organizational rewards and punishments, physical settings, group characteristics, leaders and stressful events.

All these boost the emotional level of an individual that sometimes gives a negative result. In what way? Just for instance, leaders create a big influence to their followers. The enthusiast, energy and excitement of the leader is absorbs by his followers. It is the leader who helps transforms the attitude within the workplace. The same principle follows in physical setting. It also requires a pleasant surrounding in the workplace in order to have a good mood. The area itself should release positivism to set an inspiring mood at work. Treats on physical well – being as a source of negative moods and emotions starts to draw attention. However, the following factors identified should not include all existing approaches to understanding the production of moods and emotion in the workplace.

Negative and Positive

It cannot be avoided that after engaging to a negative mode of emotion. There are a lot of consequences that needs to be face. If an individual encounters a lot of negativity within his workplace, most of the time he begins to argue with his subconscious mind and before he knows it. He did a very regrettable move of his. One of the major problems uprising is the employee theft, wherein behavior is considered as one of the coherent factors affecting it. This indicates that setting too much negativity in work creates a violent reaction. There are certain reasons why employees engage their selves in such wrong doings. Part of it is being hopeless regarding their status in work and their feeling of guilt and envy towards other co-employees. It may also give a tendency to dwell on failures and shortcomings of themselves and others, which may alienate their co-workers and managers, resulting in more negative interpersonal interactions, and lowers job satisfaction as its result.

In able to avoid these things in a workplace it would be advisable to have a good leader who can provide a proper leadership within. Part of the factors indicate previously are the leaders. They are the one implementing tasks and organize the whole team. Therefore, equity among his group should be considered to avoid being bias. It would be better to show them some concern. It will keep them motivated to excel in their work.      Another thing is the reward and punishment factor. This is another way of helping them to more productive. Give credit to the good ones and set some punishment to the bad ones. Try to challenge every one of them to be on top in order to avoid the boredom that will set their minds to such irregularities on the work place. It may react with more extreme emotion when experiencing negative job events, thus it lowers job satisfaction more.

Conclusion

Personality as a determinant of workplace moods seems relatively well established. It appears that personality operates through multiple channels to affect job satisfaction, and different elements of job satisfaction may be differentially affected by the same affective trait. Although it appears to have little doubt regarding this matter, there’s still a connection between the job satisfaction and personality. The personality holds the behavior of each individual in the workplace. The behavior can cause several things that can affect the job performance. Try to reduce having too much stress within to overcome having such mood swings that obviously may not help tasks to be easy. Set aside insecurities and other personal problem during work because it will just add up to all the burdens to the things you already engage with within your work. Although, temperaments can influence job satisfaction still a worry free mind is quite healthy and adequate. A proper behavior can help achieve a good work performance. And with a good work performance it also follows a job satisfaction. And if satisfaction is already achieved by each individual therefore there is an organized behavior within the workplace.

The happier people are within their job, the more satisfied they are said to be.
