Case Study-Kats and Fine Foods

You are the administration manager for a large quality food producer based in South Australia which exports to the Asian and European regions.  The business is a family owned organisation based in the Barossa Valley area of South Australia.  The business was opened as an outlet for the commercial sale of the family’s farm produce including milk, cheese, yoghurt, icecream, meat and poultry products, and processed products such as dips and patés.

Now that the business is exporting more regularly you have decided that a more efficient method of managing the data is required within the organisation as currently all paperwork is being produced by hand.  This is leading to some significant issues with regards to the quality of information being given to customers particularly with regard to quantities of stock on hand and available delivery times.

The new information system will need to collect data from the production line, sales department, and warehousing and shipping departments.  Most importantly the business requires weekly sales reports outlining key customers and countries of delivery as well as monthly reports containing consolidated sales figures and export information.

In the production of the new system the designers need to be made aware that the users are not very technologically literate and therefore the system must be as easy to use as possible.

Below is a copy of the entity relationship diagram which shows the proposed structure of the new information system and the data that will be collected.
