Image is a mental conception of a person or organization.

There are many different areas involved in personal image: physical appearance, grooming, clothing, facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, voice, vocabulary, social behavior.

Our impressions about other people are based on how they look, talk and behave. In today’s world everything moves extremely fast, we only have one chance to make a good impression. How we appear is strongly related with the way we think, feel and react to things that happen around us and also the way the others react towards us.

In each of us there is a real self (who we really are), a self image (who we think we are), a looking glass self (how we think the others see us, or the perception of perception) and an ideal self (who we want to be).

We all want to be better than we are. Creating a better personal image does not give birth to new talents or powers, but discovers and uses effectively the ones we already have. Improving our lives starts with understanding that the flaws and weaknesses belong to us, but do not define us.

Having a good image is important to all of us, whether we realize it or not, whether we like it or not. Image matters because most of the times people make assumptions based on limited information. Someone may be considered successful, professional, capable, wealthy, and even intelligent simply because they are well dressed.

As for corporate image, it affects the financial bottom line of a company. There are many benefits for companies with good reputation: increasing market share, lowering market and distribution costs, ability to attract and retain investors and talented employees, gaining more favorable media coverage.
