  Tips on Writing

      Forming plurals of lowercase letters

APOSTROPHES are used to form plurals of letters that appear in lowercase; here the rule appears to be more typographical than grammatical. To form the plural of a lowercase letter, place ‘s after the letter. There is no need for apostrophes indicating a plural on capitalized letters, numbers, and symbols although some still prefer them.

Example:

Three Macintosh G4s= three of the Macintosh model G4

The 1960s= the years in decade from 1960 to 1969

Instead of: The Home in your Heart is founded by the                                                Topping sisters, namely Agnes and Matilda who resided in                                       the Wigan Area sometime in the 1920’s

Consider: The Home in your Heart is founded by the             Topping sisters, namely Agnes and Matilda who resided in     the Wigan Area sometime in the 1920s

Instead of: In 1850′s, the great age of British railway   building was taking place in India, Argentina and Brazil,     financed entirely by British capital
