HEALTH IMPACT OF AIR POLLUTION FROM MOTOR VEHICLES

Motor Vehicles are important mode of transportation and it is also the most popular means of travel all over the world especially among developing countries, in fact there are more than 1 billion motor vehicles are use all worldwide because it sets the trend for efficiency and mobility standard travel on the road and there’s no substitute for it. But these vehicles are also the causes of pollution and the danger it can bring is serious, producing so much air contamination and disease that are susceptible more to human and to the environment. Air pollution is one of the biggest problems the world is now experiencing and motor vehicles largely contributed so much for this problem.

Vehicle emission can control the release of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen and other harmful chemicals but emission and testing is usually neglected by motor vehicle users because of the delay and disturbance it can bring to their transport habit plus the high cost adds up to their negligence to their preferences so most people do not exercise emission on their vehicle although most countries restrict vehicles who has not been tested for emission. People must comply with emission testing if they knew the benefit it can bring not just to human but also to the environment.

There are international efforts to set standards to the world about emission the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to handle policy and procedures that other countries can adopt. There are also advance technology that produces low emission vehicles that is now recurring, these are converters and evaporative emission controls of engines. Low emission can make the vehicles ensure its durability and reliability to prolong its life. In the United States they have recall old vehicle for emissions to ensure vehicle satisfaction and health safety.

There are attempts to measure or limit the air pollution of vehicles minimizing its adverse effects to the environment these are technical measures that encourages the use of public transport thereby also reducing traffic congestion but it didn’t work in most countries. Most of the countries that respond to the air pollution problem have take part to take consideration to give standard emission testing to their own countries.

Argentina establishes different emission for large vehicles although the implementation has been delayed because of the limited resources of gasoline. In Brazil there are also emission control program for light and medium vehicles but the program has been limited to engine modification and the government has been lenient about the practice because of the people’s compliance.

In Canada they have planned to bring car emission standards because of the clean air act but the people disagree about the proposal for this will limit the distribution of gasoline to the travelers and thereby limit emission of air pollution. In China the vehicle emission has long before established environmental protection law to set standards for light to heavy vehicles. They also encourage the use of bicycle for physical and clean air transportation for those who do not travel far.

In Thailand the government has established their own facilities to measure emission testing problem. In Japan and in other parts of the world has been involving in alternative fuels by creating an alternative hydro-power car engine to replace the vehicles pollution problems, and in America there are many companies that are developing solar power vehicles but these practices has not been fully developed or commercialized because of its high cost and people have been looking forward to this invention.

Gasoline and Diesel are the major sources of toxic and air contamination pollution there are also common air pollution that the vehicles can bring it includes respiratory diseases due to lead combustion and gasoline, smog, sulfur oxide and other harmful chemicals that destroy the natural gas and replace the air that we breathe. Carbon monoxide that poison us after so much inhalation it can also be the cause of headaches, vertigo and flu. Women who conceive should avoid so much inhalation of carbon monoxide because it can cause abnormalities in the child.

In most parts of the world are aware about air pollution but they seems to regret the serious effect of it because of the fast pace environment and their focus is more on the industry rather the pollution. The epidemiological factor and percentage rates of death due to air pollution all over the world exceed tens of thousands because of inhalation and contamination to plants and food that we eat.

The worst problem that the vehicles has brought is the climate change that we are now experiencing it is the reason for global warming that causes imbalance weather condition occurrence that brought in different kinds of devastation and the danger it may bring cannot be measured. Motor vehicle is one of the most sufficient air pollution producers that are responsible in this condition.
