The Impact of Climate Change on the Study Habits of the Students

The earth’s climate is the result of rapid changes that occur in the climate for over the past hundred years. This climate’s condition is actually very vital in the daily living of the people, as its impacts and effects to all parts of the world; as well as to the people living in earth.  Climate change is the state where there are climate variations that result to   great impacts on human activity.  In this connection, the impacts of climate change on the study habits of the students have caught the attention of the concerned sectors of the government in every country.  And, one of the effects of climate change is drought, which results into the growing need of food sustainability in many areas of a country. Furthermore, in many poor countries, the effects of climate change are adverse to both boys and girls.  But, in most societies, climate change brings greater burden to women or girls who are responsible for collecting water everyday compared to men or boys.  This scenario lessens the time of women or girls to go to school in a regular basis, because, they are already exhausted with the long-day work they had in their houses.  And, the mothers too, had no time to assist their children in their lessons or homework, because they are preoccupied with the tasks they have inside the house.  Naturally, drought and natural disasters reduce the opportunities of the students to acquire knowledge from the schools; since there is always postponement of classes whenever there is a strong typhoon and flood occurs in the country.  Moreover, during disasters, many families do not have source of income or financial resources that gives great impact to the children for not meeting their needs during the school opening such as uniforms, school supplies, books, and most especially the support system coming from their own family.

In the same manner, changes in the ecosystems provide a great loss of agriculture output and revenue among farmers, who solely depend their source of income on their crops.  This situation even led to greater problems among the food producers.  All these factors significantly contributed to the quality of education among many students in the world.  More than anything else, human settlement and relocation after calamity is the most serious condition among people; that always blocks the chances of many students to study and learn in the school. The entire family together with all the children needs to migrate to different place resulting into the children to miss their education rights.  On the other hand, food insufficiency may also result to lack of proper meals in school among students that caused them to drop out in school because of the reluctance to continue their studies; due to incapacity to absorb the daily lessons, unable to participate in the learning process because of an empty stomach.  It is important to keep in mind, that food is the fuel of the body, it helps the mind to function effectively and affects tremendously on the learning process of the students.  The adverse impacts of the effects of climate change and environmental degradation on human health, such as waterborne diseases as a result of polluted water supplies, more extreme weather resulting in natural disasters, and changes in air quality and food quality, and also have a particular impact on women/girls in their role as principal care givers. Sick children cannot have good school attendance. Consequently, strong typhoon and earthquakes certainly result to adverse flooding and total wreck in houses, school buildings and other infrastructures like roads and bridges that hinders the children to go to school.  Most likely, these catastrophes even leave many children orphans as their parents may have been killed by the disaster.  These are all major factors that a huge number of children are out of school youth, since they are just victims of natural calamities, which struck in their countries.  Thus, natural calamity occurrences, also the main reason for the consecutive cancellation of classes during the month of July to August in the Philippines, in response to this climate problem, many law makers are proposing that the opening of the school classes will be moved to September instead of June.

Therefore, the people should learn their lessons, after all the adverse impacts of various disasters that have been caused by the abusive act of different societies in the world towards our mother earth.  This is the proper time to transform people’s way of living into a more sustainable and friendly environment practice.  Both local and international communities must need to find ways and means on how to help in reducing the impact of climate change by significantly reducing the green effect of gases in the atmosphere.  Actually, the education curriculum needs to implement strategic skills for the students to understand fully the causes of climate change and its adverse impacts to their education.  (http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=12784&page=251)
