THE CONDITION OF ESTUARIES AND COASTALS
Estuary is a place where the river meets the sea here lives many freshwater and saltwater fishes and water creatures that is protected by coral reefs, other water resources like minerals and pearl can be found. There also lives in its area a habitat of various species of animals like birds, reptiles and mammals it is usually a good place to live because of all natural resources of food for all creatures can be found, even people reside in this place it is richer than mountains, forest and farmland. People may call it bay, bayou or lagoon where people meet to make their recreation and activities including fishing, swimming, party nature tripping and other celebration.
Coastal or seashore is a place where land meets the sea and ocean. Coastlines are geographic location identification to understand its restriction and ownership to where it belongs, like estuary coast is a beautiful place to live because of its abundance and natural resources reserved. In the United States alone there can be found more than 100 estuaries and coastal and volumes of people more the 70% are visiting these estuaries including sandy beaches, rocky shores, meadows and mangrove every year especially during summer seasons.
People love estuaries and coastline because it is the gift of nature and a gift of God, it even protect us with natural calamity like erosion and pollution since it brings fresh air and water it can also balance the shoreline with its abundance of trees and plants. Because of the richness of estuaries and coastal it can support life that is why people live and govern these estuaries for their livelihood. Estuaries and coast of the United States have provided them more than 80% of fish production and other marine products and resources; we depend on it without us knowing. Activities like marine fishing, tourism, boating, hotel services etc, has provided millions of job all around the world. In US alone fishing may generate more than 1 Billion US dollar every year.
They are irreplaceable to people but unfortunately most of this estuaries around the world are dying because people has been over abusing its natural resources the demand for economy may require more and more of its production and marine animals are killed resiliently without control some may even use illegal means to get more fish or catch various animals that can be found within its area. Through these activities the estuaries and coastal are depleted, destroyed and degraded that it has been saturated if even create more threats with pollution of human waste, oil spill that kills most of its creatures, there are also factories that is dumping their liquids and carbons on the bodies of water that also poison human life and marine life, even the hotels and condominiums for tourist has been responsible for such activities of dumping their waste on water, the natural abundance and its animals may have delimited place to live.
All these are very alarming that endangered the estuaries and coastal areas they are destroying the most balance ecological place on earth. There are organizations and government who protect these resources like National Estuarian Research Reserve System (NERRS) has been protecting such resources for years and preserving this life for recovery that someday they hope that our youth can still experience such beauty and economic availability and sustainability of its resources. There are laws that has been created for restriction of such areas, communities and residence are warned and taught to protect the species of marine life, there are also nurseries provided for animals for them to multiply example is the eggs of turtles are protected and when they hatch they will be released on water. Visitors are not allowed to liter in most estuaries and coastlines, Factories who have found to fill the water will waste will be shut down and most of them have protected the coral reefs for small fishes and tidal wave protection.
In the past hundreds of years most of this estuaries and coast have been affected entirely by human activities and it’s hard to recover such wonderful scenery and abundance but it is not too late to protect the one’s that is left. There are more organizations and concern citizens who have been protecting such natural resources and government around the world have been deploying coast guards at coastlines but it will take more than that to recover the life that was lost. The Restore Americas Estuaries has been calling its people to join and participate to their promotion and on the ground preservation of estuaries and coastline and I believe that is should be done all around the world, hoping that they will succeed in their endeavor to preserve its life.
