Environmental analysis and core competencies for hospitality organizations


Background:
 The economy is facing uncertain times and business is declining. You have been hired as a consultant to reduce labor costs within a hospitality organization.


Specifically you are to:
1. Select an organization within the hospitality industry (e.g., hotel, restaurant, cafe etc.). I have selected The Empire Hotel in Brunei


2. Introduce the organization to give the reader an understanding of the industry characteristics and context for the report
 While it is not expected that you have access to internal and/or confidential information, you will need to choose an organization that enables you to access sufficient information to complete this assignment. This may be an organization you work at or have previously worked at or an organization that you are familiar with and have access to public information, for example, an internet site.


3. Identify and define significant broad and operating environmental classifications that influence the chosen hospitality organization
 Provide examples to illustrate the identified environmental classifications.


4. Using Porters Five Forces model analyze the competitive factors influencing the industry of your chosen organization.


5. Identify the current significant competitive strategy adopted by the organization. Provide relevant examples to justify why you believe this is a significant competitive strategy.


6. Discuss relevant strategies for the reduction of labor costs in your chosen organization.


7. Describe the core competencies that the organization must maintain to ensure it remains competitive in the identified competitive strategies.
 Ensure that a full search has been undertaken of the topic and that all conventions of academic report writing are adhered to.
