AN HONEST OPINION ABOUT RH BILL

RH Bill or Reproductive Health Bill (House Bill 5043) for responsible parenthood is a controversial Bill in the Philippines whose primary purpose is to reduce birth or promotion of family planning and control of population explosion that will help alleviate poverty according to the Bill if implemented. The same Bill has already been introduced by Representative Edcel Lagman in the house of congress. and supported by senate Bill (2378) by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

This Bill is yet implemented nor approved because of its provision on maternal and child health (that almost associated with abortion not to exaggerate), unbelievably the Philippine Government and other Non Government Organization or even Private Institution will fund the distribution of birth control device such as condoms, pills, and other birth devices in order to control the population and sex education will be included in the school curriculum even for the very young student, the use of contraceptives will also be promoted to the community.

People including the religious sector and the academe highly refuse and oppose such Bills and accordingly there is an existing law of family planning and it is almost the same with the RH Bill (House Bill 4244). Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales totally oppose the RH Bill including the funding for the purpose of distributing condom and pills distribution why not job opportunities or food on the table rather than contraceptives. According to Arch. Gaudencio that RH Bill is very sensitive that such bill is opened up even for children that they can use such device and money is spend on such things like this, why not promote values education and morality, that is what we need today such bill is promoting immorality and sinfulness killing baby’s before they would lived. The youth will have the opportunity to exercise such act believing that the government is providing and supporting them such rights this will soon be epidemic to the society if allowed to be implemented.

This controversy has been widespread all around its land that hinders the approval of such law. The Social Weather Station (SWS) a research company conducted a survey about RH Bill and this is what they got. Out of 1500 interviews 750 or half of them do not agree with the bill and the use of contraceptives but 68% agrees that there should a bill that allow contraceptives to be distributed for exercising freedom to use such devices, while 54% of them do not disagree that sex education should be included in the curriculum and that children are susceptible to pro-actively exercise such sensitive activities and they will be eager to do it.

In my honest opinion such Bill does not merely contribute to birth control but rather more crimes will be introduced since there will be more freedom and more opportunity for such sexual practices that has also been introduced. Sexuality will be promoted for very young adult is a very sensitive matter, this are things that should not already brought in their mind because of their very young and innocent formative stages in life.

The use of funds that should be distributed for basic needs including food, education, infrastructure, and livelihood will be divided with contraceptives not to include the other side of the opportunity of graft and corruption. Immorality rather than morality will be promoted within the community because they knew that the government has allowed exercising such action because there will be distribution of contraceptives but basically teen-agers if not supported or properly guided by parents will definitely pro-creating and imitating such issues.

There are many critical problems and issues that are widespread in our society today that should be given priority by the government rather than the controversy and arguments about RH Bill and it’s easy to see them everywhere in our economic condition. Take a look around and they can see the vast poverty and hopelessness in our community all around while the congress continues to introduce the bills and creating a controversy about it. This is not a one sided opinion but there really is more important things that should be considered by the government.

According to the pro RH Bill that the religious sector should also help the government in community development and I believe that they already done so by promoting Christianity and Godliness in most schools, religion and faith is a better topic rather than the sensitive sex education that has been introduced in the RH Bill. Reaching the children would need to provide them with a strong foundation of morality and discipline rather an openness and vulnerability to such issues.

If the government really wants to alleviate poverty they should promote business opportunities and livelihood that will definitely enrich the minds of the people rather than be affected in the experimental threat of the RH Bill. This is just an honest opinion and maybe I may not be able to understand much about the goodness of the bill but basically I would rather prefer the things that is guaranteed rather than experiment for the know threat.
