I.  Title: “The characteristics of a Modern IT manager”

II. Topic Outline

From the traditional characteristics of an IT manager being a technical specialist, the demands of being an IT manager has reached another level and thus, demands more facets in terms of the job specifications.  The modern IT manager is now not only a technical specialist but also represents the aspirations of the organization he or she belongs.  A survey from  (1998) revealed the new characteristics encompass the essence of being a modern IT manager.  The characteristics of modern IT managers are: have to be a leadership by example, a visionary, possesses competent technical skills, someone decisive, a good communicator, good motivator, has capabilities of standing up to senior management whenever necessary, a supportive leader to team members and one who encourages new ideas.  The characteristics of a modern IT managers acts across all the aspects of the project team.

III. Problem Theme

My problem theme is the updating of employees current statuses and their wages in the company to be integrated into the database.

IV. Personal Theory

My personal theory in the possible resolution of my problem theme is to view all the necessary employees’ current statuses and wages such that they will all be integrated into the database and from there I will start the integration process of updating.

V. Expected Form of Answer

A partial or a partial solution to the problem them is to sort them out in the database by their respective positions so that the IT managers can have a birds-eye view in updating employees status and wages.

VI. Strategic IT value

The sorting out process would permit IT managers to have a logical order or sequence in the updating process. It is a strategic business IT outcome such that it hastens the accessibility of employees updated record without the fuzz of going through with the employees name at random.  Irretrievability is minimized and records can be readily access into once needed.

VII. Research Question

What are the other sources that I need in order to get the desirable outcome I want that I may have overlooked?

VIII. Process to Collect Primary Data

The very process I will be doing to ensure that I get the needed data to be updated is to go to the Human Resource Department and ask for confirmation regarding the employees’ status and wages.

IX. Processing of Collection of Primary Data

After going through the process of the collection of primary data, I will update the employees’ status and wages in sorting them into position so that I can easily manipulate their data and update their status one level higher and by the update of their status, the wages will automatically correspond to their respective position.

X. Research Method and Collection Protocol-

To avoid confusion and complexity, I will choice a research method that is qualitative in the form of documents since my problem is not complex, a simple research method is more appropriate to choose.  An associated data collection protocol that complements the applicability of the chosen research method is to require the employees’ to have their status updated as one of the standard operating procedure whenever they get demoted or promoted so that database will always be updated also.

XI. Summary

It is the primary responsibility of any IT manager to ensure and double check the database system to eliminate the potent problems it may bring in the future by constantly improving the updates.
