COMPUTER NETWORKING


 


1.0 Background of the Study


In the world of information superhighway, computer networking is defined as the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer hardware and software.  All networks are interconnected to allow communication with a variety of different kinds of media, including twisted-pair copper wire cable, coaxial cable, optical fiber, and various wireless technologies. The devices can be separated by a few meters for example, the one being utilized in Bluetooth or by nearly unlimited distances, which is via the interconnections over the Internet.


Furthermore, networks can be categorized in several different ways. One approach defines the type of network according to the geographic area it spans. Local area networks (LANs), for example, typically reach across a single home, whereas wide area networks (WANs), reach across cities, states, or even across the world. The Internet is the world’s largest public WAN (2005). Computer networking is sometimes considered a sub-discipline of telecommunications, computer science, information technology and computer engineering. Computer networks rely heavily upon the theoretical and practical application of these scientific and engineering disciplines. In networking, the communication language used by computer devices is called protocol. Networks often implement multiple protocols to support specific applications. Popular protocols include TCP/IP, the most common protocol found on the Internet and in home networks. Network protocols include mechanisms for devices to identify and make connections with each other, as well as formatting rules that specify how data is packaged into messages sent and received. Some protocols also sustain message acknowledgement and data compression designed for reliable and high-performance network communication. Hundreds of various computer network protocols was developed and designed for specific purposes. Internet and routing protocols are some examples of computer network protocols.


2.0 Statement of the Problem


Connectivity issues are one of the most common problems that are brought to the systems department of a corporation. There are a number of things that caused it, including configuration changes or the malfunction of connectivity devices, such as the break down of a switch, router, or hub. The inspection of the physical connections can very well be the resolution. Scrutinizing the configuration of the equipment that is experiencing the problem will make the network connection work properly. In addition, what are network disturbances that contribute in interrupted exchange of datas and the unforeseen factors that lead to the breakdown of computer networks would be another issue to deal with. What causes software and registry problems? Combating any computer networking issue is just a matter of being prepared. Maintaining a quick mind, like what a computer does, is essential in resolving network connectivity problems.


3.0 Objectives of the Study


The main purpose of this study is to analyze the several activities or events that jeopardize effective exchange of datas with computer networking. This research, specifically, purports to determine how these activities affect efficient computer networking and to distinguish the role of various types of computerized equipment in unraveling computer network problems. It also intends to explore the factors that result to connectivity issues. This research takes into account the practices that affect the deliverance of high-performance network communication. The study also seeks to evaluate how various network protocols are implemented in support for improved performance.


4.0 Research Methodology


This study will use the descriptive type of research. A descriptive research intends to present facts concerning the nature and status of a situation, as it exists at the time of the study and to describe present conditions, events or systems based on the impressions or reactions of the respondents of the research (1994). It is also concerned with relationships and practices that exist, beliefs and processes that are ongoing, effects that are being felt, or trends that are developing (1970).


In this study, primary and secondary research will be both incorporated. The reason for this is to be able to provide adequate discussion for the readers that will help them understand more about the issue and the different variables that involve with it. The primary data for the study will be represented by the survey results that will be acquired from the respondents. On the other hand, the literature reviews to be presented in the second chapter of the study will represent the secondary data of the study. The research will be presented in written form with the addition of data charts, which will present the project’s results. Pie charts and network charts will be needed to illustrate some of the analyzed data. This cannot be confirmed, however, until the research data have been analyzed.
