Writing an Effective Resume


There is a need for everybody who are seeking for a job to know how to write proper resume for it is their ticket in obtaining a job for a company.


A RESUME has a free- form organizational style used for looking positions in the private sector . To be able to know this, remember this helpful tips:



  • Your resume must only composed of one up to two pages which is the most.

  • The standard paper to be used is a white paper having A4 size.

  • The standard type-faced must be 12 fonts, Times New Roman or something that is easy to read.

  • Avoid writing the word RESUME on top of your page.

  • Personal details must be in the top–the name in bold type, the address, contact numbers and e-mail address.

  • There is a need for you to paste your picture

  • Use professional e-mail address and avoid having e-mail address such as “cutie”, “honeybabe”, “love” and etc.

  • Avoid using personal pronouns such as I, My, Mine and Me.

  • Your experience must be directly relevant to the particular position you are seeking.

  • Make used also of the action words to illustrate your work skills.


Some of the action words you may use are:


VARIOUS SKILLS: Achieved, Arranged, Built, Informed, Designed


TECHNICAL SKILLS: Assembled, Balanced, Built, Developed,


SALES SKILLS: Computed, Marketed, Sold, Produced, Increased


COMMUNICATION: Authored, Created, Reported, Demonstrated


CLERICAL SKILLS: Assigned, Prepared, Plan, Compiled, Edited


HELPING SKILLS: Assisted, Supported, Guided, Facilitated



  • If you can match the objective of what the employer is looking for, do not hesitate to do so.

  • Be specific in listing your skills, accomplishments and strenghts

  • Highlights your experiences from the most recent one

  • Have at least three references on your resume

  • Lastly, proofread your work to avoid grammatical errors that may result for the employer to disregard you.


Writing an Effective Curriculum Vitae (CV)


It is in some way similar to the resume but it is a more standardized look and format for the purpose of looking positions in academic or educational institutions. Many used this form of writing in Europe, New Zealand, French Canada and in some part of British countries.


It also includes complete and plain lists of data such as educational institution attended, degrees received, positions held, professional affiliations, and the like.


The only difference they have are listed below:



  • In some countries like the United States, they discourage the clipping of the applicant’s photograph for it may only dicriminate the applicant’s appearance such as age, race and gender, unless in the modelling world business and the like.

  • The use of the objective statement is also discourage unlike in writing a resume

  • Your qualities must be written in a short paragraph using the first or the third person

  • You must also have a short bulleted paragraph of your most desirable skills and experiences in the most recent one

  • The education or training should also be from the most recent one

  • The hobbies and interest can also be written but it is optional
