Introduction

It is very much undeniable that with the continuous development of technology, the nature of transportation is also affected. Right now, there are a lot of alternatives to choose from in order to transport things from one place to another. A good means of transportation in a certain country indicates a favorable economic progression. Their capacity to transport their products makes them even more competitive because they can be able to merchandise across the globe. Which means that the demand is not only limited to their area but as well as other target markets. Before the competition only lies among Western Europe, Japan and the United States of America but as time goes by it is extended in Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Never to mention the “Land Down Under”… Australia

The country is a continent and it surrounded by large oceans like the Pacific and Indiana. With this kind of location, it quite implies a little disadvantage to transfer from there to another country. Although Australia’s geographical location may seem to suggest that it would be quite inappropriate to do such activities. Still, they were able to come up with proper strategies to be up close with the neighboring country. The most recommended mean of transportation is by plane. But within the country itself, the use of public transport like trains, buses, and rented cars are just a few to choose from.

Transportation and Other Related Factors

The term transportation is derived from the latin word trans which means across and portare which means to carry. It is a movement of goods or people from one place to another (2008). It is very relevant to all parts of the world whether it is industrialized, newly industrialized or developing country. There are a lot of factors affecting transportation. To name a few, it includes infrastructures, vehicles and operations.

Infrastructures are considered to be the backbone of transportation. They are network where things are carried and being transferred. It includes the roads, railways, airports, bus station and seaports. Usually the government provides the constructions of the infrastructures and it was paid by the citizens from their taxes.

Vehicles also play a vital role in transportation. They serve to be as an instrument used during transferring of goods. Vehicles are carefully designed to be suited for the goods they need to be carried during transportation. Such examples are the boats, ferries, ships, trucks, cars, buses, trains and airplanes.

However, the first two factors cannot be materialized without operations. The operation is the brain of transportation. These are the policies and regulations being implemented by the government. Rules are being imposed to prevent irregularities during the activity. It controls the system by the used of tolls, fuel taxes, and traffic laws.

The Stevedores, Forwarding Agents and Other Parties

Stevedores are commonly known as dockers.  The men who usually loads and unloads different cargos on the ships, it may sound easy but then it requires a lot of knowledge. There is proper way of handling of hazardous and fragile materials as well as right techniques in lifting and stowing cargos (2008). However the task of the forwarding agents are a lot differ from their task because these agents are the on who accepts the goods and forward it to the receiver. In short they are the one who handles the transactions between the two parties: the sender and the receiver. To be a forwarding agent, one must be bonded, insured and license to do such job within the laws of your country. This is to ensure that the forwarding agent may avoid reshipping and receiving stolen property which results into a crime. By then it follows the concerns of a transit.

Transit refers to the road transportation to and from landlocked countries. In fact, it can be national and international: National transit happens when goods are transferred within national borders, from the first point of entry in the country to a location where customs procedures are undertaken, while International transit refers to the procedure where national borders are crossed. In many landlocked developing countries both types of transit can be found: imported goods arrive at the national borders from the transit countries, and are most often shipped under national transit to the main economic centers.

The transit procedures were made to protect the revenues of the transit country and to avoid the circumstance wherein the goods intended for transit may leak to the domestic market. The procedures required for transit should be simple so that it may not cause excessive delays and costs (2008).

Unfortunately, Australia is considered a transit and target country. First, considering its location again, it is a continent and its vast territory is way too attractive for illegal shippers to get their way in, and have their trafficking of fake goods. In this case, the country should improve a lot of border measures and render the effectiveness of customs authorities in particular regarding the transit of goods.  These would probably help to reduce the volume of traffic.

By the proper implementation of this, Australia can overcome the accusations as a target country because it will help utilize the scenario of making the country a market for fake goods. Globally, it becomes a problem right now for most of the country. There should be efforts in terms of building public awareness about its negative impact and the risks of such practice. Again it also requires more effective custom controls of imported goods and a more effective reaction by the police and courts against those individuals involved in large scale trading of such goods (2008).

The Products

There is certain criterion that needs to be considered in the exportation of goods. The cost is number one. The cost may somehow be affected by the speed, packing and service level. And this is how it goes. A 100 bottle of fine Australian wine is to be exported in the United Kingdom. First, consider the nature of the product. Wine can last up to a long time but its packing seems to be fragile because it is usually comes in glass bottle. So the better way of its shipments is by cargo ships. The transportation may be quite long but that was the appropriate one for that kind of product because it doesn’t require any urgency due the expiration of the wine.

In case of important documents, it is required the use of the fastest and safest way of handling it to the costumers. Obviously, it should be by plane because it’s the one that has both. On the other hand, this may become a bit pricey but what is at stake here is to bring the documents to the client safe.

Lastly, for the 20 cubic meters of household goods for the manager in Indonesia, either by plane or by ship will be fine. But preferably by ship, the reason it that, Indonesia is just along the part of Asia wherein Australia is a lot nearer compare to other country that lies in the European Coast. And again, the products nature doesn’t imply any urgency in its expiration. Therefore it is best traveled by the sea. And it cost would also be a cheaper.

The same with a 40,000kg/ 60 cubic meter of fine Australian paper, this can also be transported either by plane or ship. But considering the quality of the said product, and due to practically wise, maybe it would be better to send it by plane. In a cargo ship, the cargos are places in the lower portion of the ship. Therefore, if the vessel encounters unnecessary circumstances by the sea, water will tend to flow within it and the crew of the vessel will find it hard to save the product. Paper easily crumpled especially when it’s wet.

Conclusion

There is only limited access from Australia to a country as now. Due to the nature its geographical location, it can only be provide a means of transportation by air and by sea. However, both provide a different useful way of providing their product across the globe. By the instances given from the further discussions, it is therefore widely acknowledge that transportation by means of the air is much more anticipated by the people. The reasons are because it provides more consolation and satisfaction. Although it is quite costly compare to the latter, still it is widely used because it is faster and more practical.

A soon as Australia keeps an eye to the irregularities of transferring of goods. They can be able to sustain the growth of those assumptions about being a target and transit country. And somehow this is not only for Australia but it also applies to all the countries. Globalization becomes the trend of most countries right now, even the third country. That is why there are a lot of possibilities that fraud ness would still be prevalent all across the globe.
