HIERARCHY AND GENDER DOMINATION

      In all countries around the world exercises various moral etiquette and common goodness that is manifested in our culture and preferences but no matter what kind of belief and religious practices there are so much records that male domination still reside in our society until today. Gender domination may not be an issue in other countries but it violates the rights of people and women and children are almost always the one who suffered there are not much records that male are dominated by female although it may be possible. Consider the following examples below;

      Wife Beating in Middle East Countries like Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other countries is practiced and accepted because male are perceived to have more value that is why they are dominant. In the study of Egypt National Population Council survey shows that 86% of women allow their husband to beat them if they refuse in sexual exhibition of their partner or if they are caught talking or flirting to other men, neglect their children etc. There are also 32% pregnant respondents that they are also beaten even if they are pregnant. Virginity is definitely required for women their family will brutally kill women if they found out that they are no longer a virgin, they call it “honor killing” and a man who are sentenced for killing non virgin women may receive immunity. Women are not allowed to testify if they saw a rape case and men cannot be convicted in the presence of women’s testimony.

      Bride Burning in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are still practiced in their countries that if the dowry (money or property) is not given to the husband by the family of the bride after marriage they may perform a violent conviction that they will take revenge on women by burning them to death. The National Crime Bureau of the Government of India has recorded about 6,000 burning of women in 2002 that are killed because of dowry family dispute. This led the people especially women to push a law against bride burning but is has not been enforced. The law has not protected their woman against this act but instead they made the resolution in favor of man to beat their wives for disciplinary purpose. Male domination and hierarchal discipline has been the reasons and women who have given dowry still do not possess any rights to handle money but they have the obligation to do household chores and serve their husband and children. (Violence against women magazine, 2004)

      Rape in War happens almost in every part of the world especially during world war where women suffers from being raped that they are treated as men’s possession and this has been a part of strategy as a weapon of war to demoralize their enemy to provoke them to anger and hatred. During the Bosnian war there are at least 20,000 women are raped across In Rwanda there are at least 300,000 Tutsi women are raped in the bloodiest war ‘genocide” during the 1990’s  some of them are brutally killed most of them seek abortion or kill their children during pregnancy. (Human Rights Watch, http://hrw.org/reports/1996/Rwanda.htm, September 1996)

      Son Preferences rather than daughter is a worldwide issue just like in China were they prefer male son rather than daughter because they believe that men is stronger than women in any aspects especially in business, in India they prefer to carry pregnancy expectedly if it is a son but they may terminate or abort their pregnancy if it will be a daughter. This has been the reason why genetic testing has become an effective business in India. Same with Saudi Arabia where they prefer son as the one to handle all their property and that women will only marry. In USA the famous boxer Muhammad Ali stated that he had one boy and seven mistakes.

      There are countless reports and gender domination that is happening around the world and mostly it is the woman and children are suffering and their culture and religion has been involved in these practices like the mutilation of women in Africa or beating of Muslim to their wife, Domestic Violence from every part of the country and things like this are rampant but inhuman in any form. That is why some women are on the rise to take a stand to empower their gender and protect them in the society to treat them equally in order to live a normal life.

       The Center for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children promotes community action center internationally by educating women in their society to play an important role to take part of in the society to empower themselves against violence. Although the organization has a limited position to deal with women from other countries they are still encouraging women and children to participate online to take their stand and they are there to help. There are many organizations around the world that is recognized to help women and children for their protection but the violence still exist.
