THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING IN SAFETY AND HEALTH IN ELECTRICITY PRODUCING COMPANY

There are various importance in training employees of Electricity Company about health and safety, in Oklahoma State alone the National Safety Council recorded that there are average of 600 casualties in a year due to electrical cases and there are more than 7500 injuries in the United States every year. This data shows the danger and constraint at work, electrical company should do something about it by giving their employees an adequate training to eliminate such accidents.

Electricity has always been a part of dynamic changes in the entire world and it revolutionizes all of major inventions and without electricity the world will almost instantly paralyze its production. Although working with electricity is really dangerous the emergency needs for health and safety are therefore in the hands of the company who produces electricity, they must comply with the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to assure that the company protects each and every person inside the workplace. These are some guided importance that should take place:

The importance of training in health and safety should include the following;  The General Safety related practice shall be maintain in the occupational workplace in preventing electricity shock or related injuries to protect their people to physically touching components that open to energized risk to prevent electric shock hazards. Before the operation or employees shift the preceding parts must be de-energized so that the new employees will not be exposed or will not commit instant or automatic risk at work. Same goes to electrical tools and circuits that should be turned off when not in use example is during break time. This should be even more practice in a chemical plants or electrical plants who has potential with nuclear reaction.

There should also be energized parts that the employees should be aware of because they maybe expose to other electrical hazards or they should know the basic safety measures in the workplace that has energized parts. They should keep them from direct contact inside the workplace, some specific safety work practice involve dealing with technical and professional measures that the employees should be familiar with so they know what to do in case there may be contact.

Warning tags and locks should be in place, this does not require training but equally important in the workplace to keep them reminded about places and equipment. Warning instantly protects employees while locks securely protect them and only authorized personnel should be allow handling the key to such closed circuits. Regular inspection is another safety features that requires immediate deliberation and reporting that there are places that needs immediate attention or may require the assistance of qualified professional. Regular inspection does not only protect the electrical plant but also update their current requirements and output during the day.

Releasing stored energy should be done regularly and the employees should know how to do it or there should be qualified personnel who are assigned to do it. None release of energy from the electrical plants may endanger not just the employees but the whole plant because it can overflow from improper release directly to the transmission. This requires technical expertise but will absolute protect them from immediate danger.

Testing equipments like voltages, jumpers, shorts, grounds and electrical circuitry even little elements should be verified or de energized before use to prevent electric shock hazards and back again to be energized after the testing. The Overhead lines should be de energized and grounded, there should also be additional safety measure including guarding, insulating, isolating the overhead lines. That will protect most part of the body in direct or indirect contact that may happen subconsciously. There are also series of voltages that persons should not get close especially from unprotected overhead lines or they may be in a dangerous position.

Protective gear and tools is very basic but should not be forgotten or neglected, gloves, helmet, jacket or long sleeve garments and protective shields in uniform should protect workers from most dangers involve in internal or external electric shock hazards. Conducive or conductive materials or apparels including jewelry, bracelet, rings, watches, necklace or other metals should not be worn for they may be conducive to energy contact and may expose danger to people. While only authorized tools should be used to eliminate replacement of low performance equipments.

Distances and barriers should protect employees from accidental moving objects such as vehicles, lifters, ladders etc. they should be kept far from offices or closed circuits that is protected with barriers even if there is no signs or warnings. Nurses or medicine must be available in case of emergency. There are also available safety manuals for more specific safety procedures in health and safety. Companies should provide such manuals for their employees, all this basic training guides should help employees inside and outside the workplace in most power producing company in order to protect them from possible danger.
