RESOURCES FOR THE BLIND STUDENT


      Basically blind student has been one of the most challenging jobs a teacher may encounter because a blind person makes it hard for them to include such student in a regular classroom. The participation of the unexplored and unseen lessons of the student who suffered such illness may become a deficit in association of the students who can basically see the lessons. It will take quiet some times for a student to familiarize themselves for such environment, sometimes their classmates would tease them and insult them which makes it even harder and deliberately decrease such morality of student who are blind.   


      A student who felt different in school may feel inadequate and insecure and this hinders his growth potential to learn even they may be capable. A person who suffered from this kind of disability maybe down hearted and easily provoked to anger and solitude, sometimes they are resistant and withdrawn.  If they have not found security and love at home they may experience low self esteem, lack of confidence and non participation in school.


      These have been the reason why there are special school for the blind that caters to such students who suffered from low vision and totally blind students. They have used the Braille system to easily identity such student’s difficulty, their teachers and workers are highly trained and experienced to handle task for students who are low in vision and totally blind. These schools are equipped with all the tools necessary for students who are blind.        


      Mobility for children who are blind has become a critical lesson during the past years but the availability of white cane makes it easier for them to adopt a systematic approach in mobility. This is a foldable stick that they can use to grasp the roads or bumps so that they can easily feel their ways to prevent things they never want to walk on to before they move to the next steps. This white cane is so useful everywhere they go. Today there are special kinds of electronic laser cane that can produce sound if the person holding it is nearly hitting walls or near object that may destruct their mobility. Today’s modern technology paved it’s way to produce electronic gadget like Sonic Mobility device just like a headset or blue tooth device that simply hangs on ears. This gadget will beep if the blind is nearly going obstructive materials like walls or post etc. This kind of device is very suitable for indoor and outdoor use. There are also handle mobility device that looks like a flashlight that will beep and vibrate if it detects and identify nearby objects.     


      There are also variable approach sensitivity they can dwell to, children uses their sense of touch and sense of smell to identify things and places. They are allowed to touch, hear, and smell such places and things if they need to, only to familiarize them to stand firm in their position so that they can predict or theorized the available space where they have been. They are taught to come up with hypothesis identification intelligently about the things they touch or smell or hear.  


      The school layout plans and landmarks are specifically suited for comfort and ease of use so that children can easily travel carefully in all routes. Through this they can learn to guide themselves even when they go outside from various places, with a little help from their guardian they can learn to master independence during practice of the entire course.   


      They have computer rooms that contains special software specially suited for the blind that when used would talk familiar words they can easily learn. That is why computer education has become a very essential part for student who suffered from this kind of ailment. Most schools for the blind even use special text to speech software so that every letter or word they typed can be easily heard over headset or speaker.  Most students are taught to be independent to move confidently and secured because of the equipment or PC. They can safely taught to navigate the internet and while they were in the protection of their teachers. Their teachers are reluctant that they will learn, since most of them are in the same state. So they are treated harmoniously inside the classroom.


      Their psychological and behavioral pattern are closely monitored, basically the feeling of comfort and socialization has become their top priority since this has been their primary focus and motivating factor for the blind students to learn more. Their families and guardian are also taught about how to handle their behavior in school and at home. These students feel the utmost confidence that they are all as important as like most people. That is why they are confident to learn in this kind of institution.
