Interpersonal relationship of doctors and nurses in delivering care

The role of doctors and nurses are equally important in the delivery room especially in the case for expecting mothers who are ready to give birth, they are the one who are medically capable of doing the medical works and operation if needed in the case of caesarian. They are also the team who support the emotional and physical characteristic of a woman who are giving birth so that they are guaranteed to cooperate during the emergency delivery period. They are both expert in giving first aid medical advice so that the patient can feel comfortable and confident that they are safe. They are also able to train and educate pregnant women to take care of their pregnancy during the first few months before the delivery.

In a Hospital mostly ob-gynecologist and nurses works together hand in hand while in lying in clinic who are also a certified practitioner to giving birth, a midwife and a nurse are the one who are also registered to take care of the patient but generally ob-gynecologist are the one who are authorized and expert in giving care.

For a first time mother her first labor can create anxiety and unpredictable changes in emotion not only to the pregnant woman but also to her husband that is why there are times that they need to go through emotional counseling to prepare them about their circumstance. Medically speaking doctors and nurse would teach their patient upon natural birth some techniques so that upon delivery, the new mother would not feel the pain or will lessen the pain upon delivery.

When the mother has given birth to a child another technique of mother and child bonding during the first few hours is also taught by doctors if they have the time or the nurses themselves. Usually nurses would also give a little effort to teach their immediate relative to take care of the patient who just given birth since the role of immediate family is a very important factor for supporting the patient especially for the first time mother. Doctors sometimes would require the husband or parents to memorize the medicine so that they would continue the treatment even when at home since this is a simple but a very important task for the mother.

Medically, doctors and nurses would ensure that the document including their medical prescription, medicines and their medical records is easily available at hand. These are important documents that served as a basis of a history after they have given birth. These records are kept in their database and are required to be recorded depending on the law of the states but basically it is kept for immediate information. This has been the usual doctor to patient relationship in a normal delivery.

On emergency situation which requires an immediate attention so that complication can be immediately prevented, a thorough cooperation between doctors and nurses are required. Sometimes they would join together to take care of one patients who are suffering from a stigma of actual scene of tension and anxiety between immediate guardian and family, they would separate them to stand aside so that they can concentrate on the treatment rather than the confusion and arguments of the family.

During the post natal period nurses and doctors would need to help the emotional strength of the mother if the treatment is not successful. Unfortunately there comes a time that an emergency treatment may not be enough, the mother and a child may suffer from emergency cases that if not prevented may lead to death. In this case it is only in the hands on God.

In the case of caesarian which is more complicated and highly risky and technical and may required a full surgical operation of the patient which is going be cut through the stomach doctors would need to examine and educate the patient if they are capable of doing so. Contrary to the belief, a caesarian is not always an emergency case and may be predicted by doctors during pre natal period. The nurse could not help during the operation but could only assist during performance. The patient would take about two to four weeks to recover.

In the end after the delivery the doctor would check-up the overall condition of the mother and the baby while the nurse would give additional information about breast feeding and post-natal briefing about taking care of her womb and body. And this has been the cycle of an interpersonal relationship of medical professionals in the delivery room of most Hospitals and Clinics.
