CULTURAL IMPERIALISM FROM IRIS MARIONS YOUNG’S VIEW

Cultural Imperialism is the domination of one culture over another. One good example maybe the domination of rich country over poor country, there are various opinion about what has is it all about and the imperialist themselves would not admit such words. But this meaning has led Iris Marion Young, a political science professor at the University of Chicago to deliberately publicize to critically emphasize her feministic view about imperialism that according to her there are oppression that is unseen all over the world, there are deliberate democracy comparable to colonialism and her critical writings in liberalism includes all of it to understand its writings like; Justice and Politics of Difference, Inclusion and Democracy, Responsibility for Justice.

These are seen in the cultural preferences of people about gender perception and color more than the unfair distribution of resources there are activities of exploitation and violation of human rights that is not seen or heard and it is hidden through the context of distribution of goods and services to people. Somehow they believe that there is freedom but the minds of the women are more seriously convinced without conviction and it leads them to domination. Women still not included in decision making and participation in economic and political views from most countries their voices is still not heard and their opinion is not give importance.

They equate the distribution of merchandise to the paradigm of justice but it does not merely solve the injustice but it oppressed people more that distribution is not the factor of their gift but a strategy of deception this has been designed to subject people to their desire they are trapped into this world. The poor people who thought that what they have been receiving is a new concept and new ideas they never thought they are fooled and molded into domination so that their culture will be their culture while their resources will be the resources of others, they may be selling their culture for free.

The fact is the recognition and awareness of people being dominated is not at all obvious, the needs of the people from a third world country are given by the opportunist and cultural imperialist. Considering the role of women and gay who do not have the privilege to the society to perform their consistency to be women or to be gay is their belief but the cultural imperialist are inviting them to be free and do not hide. Cultures from Asian people are usually conservative but the imperialist have somehow delivered them to be more liberated and if feels good the women of conservatism has now accepted the morality that is passed on to their culture and they have accepted it.

Their religions are non Christian but they have accepted Christianity as a part of their life because of what they gain from the imperialistic people who they thought was something true. The way that women are dressed and they speak and how they treat their men has shown a different effect that has been an adaption to western culture and women and gay is willingly accepted such practices removing their own virtue and cultural belief and this is how they are trapped when the people of Asia and Africa has adopted the culture of Americans. Putting the shoes of others is the simple term that is why they are accepted and they seem right in the eyes of the Asian and Africans.

People from third world country seems to be treated to performed self development and more products and services are being offered but according to Young this are just a form of temptation like mouse who fall in the trap for the cheese they never had. People are oppressed but they are treated like kings so that it never shown. In today’s reality it may be true and people are colonially been conquered that they have sold their culture in exchange for the culture of the western society. In most nations in Asia and in Africa most of the factories and companies are owned and governed by foreign investors while most of their workers are their locals who earned lesser in their own country.

The manifestation of the original culture from countries of Asia and other continents are lessen and has been replaced by western culture their food preferences like McDonalds, KFC, Kenny Rogers etc, they wear Levis jeans and Hanes their foot-ware is more like Nike and Adidas, unbelievably their people needs to learn English so they can work in the foreign company on their land and this companies are the one who usually controls the government of what they like.

The theory and perception of Iris Marion Young has been like this although she mostly emphasized the role of women; African and Asian who need so much monetary help from International Monetary Fund and World Bank they may seek help from their country thinking that would help them. They may also rely on World Health Organization for they cannot suffice their needs all this have been introduced in return for domination or somehow they call globalization in disguise but the reality is cultural imperialism. This has been the system of today and they may not know it or maybe their eyes was closed or somehow blinded because of their needs.
