The Essay

A good answer for any of these questions depends upon the application of some or many of the key elements of the course that are developed in class, in addition to specific material from relevant personal research in the area of your question.

Extensions

Extensions are only granted for documented medical reasons or other documented unavoidable serious interruptions relevant to your ability to study. Extensions are not granted due to an inability to organise your time and work practices.

Word limits

The word limit for an assignment is part of the assessment criteria. There is a tolerance of 10% (i.e. 2500 word limit = +or – 250 words. Any excess beyond the 10% will result in a maximum mark of 40%. You should state the number of words on the front of your assessment.

Late submission of assignment

If assignments are submitted after the due date but within one calendar week (i.e. up to 6 days after the submission date) a maximum mark of 40% can be achieved. If submitted after one calendar week (i.e. 7 days or more) a mark of 0% will be awarded.

Plagiarism and collusion

Plagiarism occurs when someone copies or reproduces another person’s words or ideas and presents them as their own with no proper acknowledgement via citation and referencing. This includes copying the work of other students. Collusion is when two students work together and submit an individual assessment that is not entirely their own work. All are forms of cheating and will be treated with severe penalties (see student handbook). To ensure that you are not guilty of plagiarism you must always declare all the sources from which you have obtained material or ideas by citation in the text and an associated reference list at the end of your work.

Disabled Students

Where necessary, an alternative assessment will be provided for disabled students in accordance with QMUC assessment regulations and faculty good practice.

Diet 2 – re-submission

Diet 2 is a resubmission of the diet one assessment. Students are able to receive feedback from the tutor and take guidance about the areas of weakness so that the student is able to build upon the work of the first diet.  This diagnostic and formative feedback supports the student in the management of re-sitting as well as the successful completion of the assessment.
