Soothe it by applying an antibiotic ointment or petroleum-jelly product before bed, says Francesca Fusco, MD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York City. Prevent the itching from returning by not soaping up too much down below – a slight lather is fine—since soap dehydrates skin.
