Essay 1

My Definition of Success

Introduction

Success is realizing my personal expectations. Defining success includes my expectations of success, evaluation of the manner that I view success, and the corresponding determinants of success.

When I hear the phrase “my success”, I expect to see me in a smart suit, working in my own office in a sky rise with a beautiful view, and enjoying doing my work. I have a six figure monthly pay, a big house in a plush neighborhood and a jaguar.

I view success as economic stability. This means that I earn sufficient income to provide for my material needs and wants. I also view success as experiencing self-fulfillment or contentment due to the feeling that I have achieved my expectations and there is nothing more to do. I also view success as experiencing happiness where happiness means total bliss.

There are two general determinants of success, which are: 1) my achievement of material needs and wants including sufficient income, house, car and desired luxuries; and 2) my psychological experience of the feeling of fulfillment, contentment and happiness because I have achieved my material needs and wants. This means that for me success is both having and feeling. Having refers to the actual realization of the needs and wants that I expect to achieve. Feeling is the psychological states of being fulfilled, content and happy because I have achieved what I wanted to do. In conjunction with these determinants, it follows that success involves a mental process and physical action. I should be able to determine my expectations in order to commence the process of achieving success. I should also be able to identify the means of achieving these expectations. After the accomplishment of these tasks, only then can I perform the actions directed towards the expectations.

Conclusion

Success is realizing my personal expectations. Success involves physical and psychological aspects or the achievement of material needs and wants and the experience of the state of fulfillment, contentment and happiness respectively. Success involves a mental and physical process, involving the determination of expectations and planning a course of action and the latter referring to the actual accomplishment of the plan.

Essay 2

Analyzing the Process of Achieving Success

Introduction

Success is a process because it involves a series of connected steps, phases or stages. Analyzing the process of success requires the determination of the stages of success, breaking up these stages into smaller steps and assessing every step in order to come up with an understanding of success.

Stages of Success

The first stage is the determination of the expectations of an individual on what constitutes success. This means that the person should be able to determine the physical and psychological aspects of success. Physical manifestations of success includes having a beautiful house, a car, a high-paying job and membership at an exclusive shop while psychological manifestations covers the feelings of fulfillment, contentment and happiness. It is also in this stage that the individual identifies particular expectations. This stage is important because it involves the identification of what the person wants to have and feel in order to be successful.

The second stage involves the development of a plan of action. To complete this stage, the person should be able to identify the different ways of achieving the pre-determined expectations. The alternative courses of action are based on the personal experiences of the person, from the experiences of family members, friends, peers and neighbors, and from the shared experiences of experts. After learning these alternatives, the person should analyze the different modes of action in the context of the expectations for success to determine the best course of action. This stage involves diligent thought before making a decision. The person should also be able to identify the steps of achieving goals.

The third stage is the process of doing the steps one at a time to achieve the expectations for success. In this stage, the steps that are part of the plan serves as a guide or map to the person so that actions are directed towards the achievement of expectations.

Conclusion

Success is a complex process. It involves the determination of specific, workable expectations, the development of a definite plan of action, and the diligent fulfillment expectations guided by the plan.
