Assessment on Industrial Waste Management and its Impact on Environment

Generally speaking,   industrial waste management is a strategic approach that intends to eliminate, remove or recycle the waste produced in the industrial surroundings.   Industrial waste and residue is the solid or liquid from of chemical that are toxic and harmful to human’s health and to the environment.  However, industrial waste management is here, because their main concern is to dispose properly all the industrial products that can affect to the people’s health as well as to the environment.  Through proper industrial waste management, the various industrial company’s factories and plants or people concerned can be aware of the proper disposal strategies and approaches of the industrial waste through different recycling programs, landfills and incineration or burning.

Furthermore, there are many waste materials in the industrial factories and plants that resulted into huge size of pollution in the environment if it is not given proper attention and solution.  This is the reason that many industrial companies are hiring waste experts to focus mainly on the issue of proper and effective disposal of industrial waste.  The major focus of this waste strategy is to comply with the eco-friendly laws of the various governmental agencies worldwide.  And, these government agencies are imposing certain penalties by means of increasing taxes on the industrial companies that do not follow the proper industrial waste disposal.

In this same manner, there are many techniques to industrial waste management.  Industrial waste can be collected and can be brought into other recyclable sites.  Recycling is another waste strategy that industrial companies have been using many years now.  The most recycling methods used in the industrial waste management are the biological, physical reprocessing and energy recovery.  The most common industrial products that  are being recycled include aluminum that is used for beverage cans, coppers or wires, steel food an aerosol cans, steel furnishings or equipment and PET bottles, glass bottles and jars, paperboard, cartons, corrugated fiber board boxes   and many different kinds of papers.  Each country and city has various recycling programs that they use in different waste products.

Typically, recycling is the most favored solution in the industrial waste management system.  And, many environmental groups agree with the idea because of the main advantages that it brings to the people and to the environment.  Primarily, recycling is an environmentally-friendly waste strategy.  It converts used products into usable materials all over again.  Next, recycling can be a source of income to many people in the society.  It helps people to establish waste or recycling business in a very low capital or investment.  Aside from that, there are many industrial companies that can benefit from their waste products.  They can still turn them into re-use or recyclable materials in their own production process.  This strategy can help the company to reduce their budget for buying new materials for their manufacturing process.  As well as the industrial companies can have the opportunity to increase their revenues or profits.

Landfill is the second most common practice in many countries worldwide.  This is practiced at the vacant quarries, mining or borrows pits.  A well-managed landfill must be hygienic and non-expensive method of waste disposal.  Modern designed landfills include strategies such as gas extraction systems.  This is installed to extract the gas through pumping out the landfill using perforated pipes and burnt in a gas engine to generate electricity.   Third, is incineration, is a waste method that is subjected into burning so as to convert the waste materials into residue and gaseous products.  This method is used by the large scale industries.  Incineration is very common waste method in Japan because there is inadequate land for landfills.

All these approaches can help eliminate the amount of industrial waste that a factory or plant disposes everyday.   Additionally, there are two most effective waste disposal techniques that are being carried out already by various industrial companies nowadays.  These are by the use of landfills and incineration devices.  But, of course, depending on what kind of waste to be disposed.   Actually, there are chemical wastes that are not allowed to just dump at landfills since they have toxins that can penetrate the groundwater.  This may obviously cause a health problem in the nearby community or populations.  In contrary, incineration method is typically burning waste materials in proper places.  However, there are many environmentalists who do not agree with this kind of waste disposal because of the emission of hazardous gasses on the air.

The industrial waste management is a major factor in any industrial business to maintain its effort and ability to maintain its ISO 14001 accreditation.  All industrial companies are expected to improve their waste and environmental performance and efficiency in a regular basis.
