In his Letter from Birmingham City Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. argued fervently that he did not be set his deeds to defy the legality and authenticity of the US or the rule of law but merely the moral appropriateness of the law under consideration. He was incarcerated for a deed that confronted the authenticity and legality of a single law, not the legality or authenticity of the state by itself.
